Family Tree. How to Revive the Tradition

Trees are something special. It is to them that many of our childhood memories are connected to, they allow us to go back to simpler times, to the times when we were young, and just as we grow, they do to. And so today we will talk about family trees.

Not just a tree

If you look through old family photo albums in antique and second-hand shops, you will surely see the chronicles of this tradition on the yellowed photos. For example, on the first pages there are photos of a couple planting a tree, then there are photos with their children and young tree, then already grown children stand in front of a full grown tree. Inevitably comes the moment when they sit down and remember their parents, looking at the huge gnarled branches and powerful trunks. Life goes on, the tree remains. It sees everything, hears everything and knows everything. It is a living witness of family history. It undoubtedly patronizes these people and helps them.

I know a case when the family, before planting their tree, wrote everything about themselves on paper: and how they live and what they are happy about, what disturbs them. They tightly sealed the message in a bottle and put it under the roots of the future tree. To the question “why?” They answered: but imagine, after many, many years, some by today’s standards, a fantastic mechanism will lift this already dying tree, a bottle will suddenly fall out of it … People will read the letter and learn about us. This tree holds a lot of importance and love in their lives.

History reference

Sacred trees and groves were especially revered and guarded several thousand years ago in Assyria and Babylon. During the wars, they were specially cut down by the invaders in order to deprive the defeated people of their protection. According to ancient Russian beliefs, the family tree protected the hosts from harm and symbolized hospitality. These trees, as a rule, grew in front of the house, it was around them that they often arranged family gatherings under the protection of their three, the guests came and the celebrations were held, all around the tree.
